Responsibilities:

  • Aim to compare an array of bacterially expressed, natural occurring and synthetic peptides’ ability to induce endosomal escape when expressed with a larger fusion protein. This involves various molecular cloning, bacterial growth, protein expression and purification techniques which were learnt semi-independently, coupled with various troubleshootings. Then, fusion proteins were tested on cells which involves taking images with fluorescent microscope and analysis of these images.

Summer-student supervisor (NanoMB, Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Science)

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of a final year Pharmaceutical science student on a short summer project involving molecular biology. The student was taught multiple laboratory skills like PCR, molecular cloning, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis and experimental design.

  • Aid the subject coordinator with guiding a group of second year pathology students through their coursework and laboratory practices in this laboratory based subject. During face-to-face sessions, this involves reinforcing concepts required for efficient learning, facilitating discussion among students and teaching proper laboratory techniques.
  • Marking student’s coursework; giving constructive feedback on student’s progress and alerting any abnormality to subject coordinator
